Department of English was founded in 2007 with the establishment of the college in the same year. At its inception only one substantive post (Unreserved) was sanctioned. However, the department got its first two teachers, Smt. Shyamali Mandal Ramjan Ali, both of whom joined as PTT on 23rd October, 2009. Gradually overcoming the initial phase of hurdles, two more teachers, namely Sri Dwijendra Nath Burman and Sri Indranil Kundu were appointed as Guest-Teachers, on 01/08/2012 and 15/11/2013 respectively. And finally, Smt. Tanima Dutta joined at the substantive post on 4th April, 2017. At present, the department has one Assistant Professor (Dr. Tanima Dutta), and three SACT-II teachers (as the PTT Smt. Shyamali Mandal and two Guest Teachers, Dr. Dwijendra Nath Burman and Sri. Indranil Kundu were re-appointed as SACT-II in 2019 as per Govt. order).

Teaching method

The teachers of the department usually incorporate class lectures, discussion –based method, audio-visual method, literary pedagogy, English communication practices, lectures based on power-point presentations, group discussions and so on as means of teaching-learning process. The department occasionally organises seminar, syllabus-based special lectures (both offline and online) and many literary-cultural activities as per requirements and situations. The department plans to conduct more student-oriented seminars and workshops in upcoming days to enlighten their knowledge.

Future Plans

In near future, the administrative vision to set up a language lab at the college will definitely help the students (mostly being the first generation learners, who often face the linguistic challenges with foreign language like English), in sharpening their language and phonetic skills and vocabulary. The students from this department, however, usually get a mixed grade of results. Hence, the department envisions that all students of different merits get benefitted in the course of their journey in the college academically, culturally and of course morally so that they can prove themselves to be the real “father[s/mothers] of the nation”.
